Educators of the imperial children
The documentary gives the audience a look behind the scenes and shows us those people who in fact had the most decisive influence on the children of the Habsburgs family.
According to the tradition, the biological parents only had occasional contact with their children, usually only seeing them for a few minutes a day, sometimes even just a few hours a week. Therefore, the nannies known as “Ajas” at court acted as substitute mothers in the early formative years, and later educators accompanied them as closest confidants and companions not only into adulthood, but also remained loved ones for the “children” away from public perception until the end of their lives. But there were also exceptions, because some children were completely at the mercy of the draconian educational measures and remained traumatized their entire lives.
Diary entries, letters and memoirs make it possible for the audience to get to know a previously unknown piece of history first-hand and to immerse in the private world of the Habsburg family.
