Industrial history of Austria
This documentation describes the moving industrial history in the southern Lower Austria, which was for a long time one of the leading industrial regions in Europe. Starting with the industrial pioneers of the Danube Monarchy, Martin Vogg's film tells about the reorientation of Austrian industry after the decline of the Danube Monarchy in the interwar period, the expropriation of Jewish business families during the Nazi era and the focus on the armaments industry - partly with forced labor - and the associated heavy bombing of the region, as well as the reconstruction of industry during the second republic. In addition, the question is examined as to how the region between Vienna and Simmering was able to develop into a center of European industry.
What were the economic prerequisites for industrial development, who were the most important protagonists, and how have the framework conditions and demands changed over the decades.
